AGM Announcement and Statement from BHC Chairman

Dear Members

The Bournemouth Hockey Club AGM will take place in the Garden Room at Chapel Gate on Monday 20th August at 7.00pm. With the new season not far away, there are lots of things to discuss and some important decisions to be made, so it is imperative that we have a strong representation from BHC members across all parts of the club.

An important part of this meeting is the election of club officials to form the BHC committee. We are fortunate that a lot of the existing committee are prepared to continue to serve on the committee and will make themselves available for re-election at the AGM, but there are some functions where we need new volunteers to step in and help.

I am pleased to announce the appointment of two new officials.

Rose O’Reilly was voted in as Ladies Club Captain at the recent Ladies AGM.

John Stuart who plays for the Men’s Vets has agreed to fill the vacant Vice Chairman position and will be available for re-election at the AGM for the coming season. John has also been supporting the club by chairing our Commercial Working Group. I would like to welcome Rosie and John to the team.

Subject to approval at the AGM, I would like to extend the committee to include a Membership Secretary for the Men’s and Ladies Senior players, we used to have someone in this position, but in recent years this job has fallen to Kherrin Wade and myself. I believe we now need a dedicated person for this role and allow us to concentrate on our elected roles. The main responsibilities will be to keep a record of adult players playing on a Saturday, including students and with assistance from the Club Captains, manage payments for subscriptions and help to chase up match fee payments.

It would be good to arrange some social events for this season and it would be great if one representative from the Social Committee can attend committee meetings.

I am aware that in recent years the ladies have organised social events without much assistance from the men’s section. I now have a commitment from Rich Harrison-Poole and Jake Harrison to get involved on the Social Committee, so if there are ladies willing to meet with them to plan some events that would be great.

I have been BHC Treasurer for six years now and I am finding the Chairman’s duties and Treasurer’s duties too big a workload. I am therefore asking for a volunteer to work with me for this coming season, with a view to taking over fully as Treasurer next season. All banking is now done online and the role is 90% filling in spreadsheets, so no accountancy experience required. Please contact me if anyone would like to find out more.
